In the beginning of seventh grade I was very excited and ready for a new year. However, when I found out that my fifth period would be journalism, I didn’t know how to feel about it. Mostly because I didn’t know what I would have to do in that class. I thought that I was going to write boring articles all the time. I am not going to lie, but when I first walked in to the classroom, I was a little bit nervous. I didn’t recognize anyone, everyone was a total stranger to me. I saw many people talking and laughing with their friends, and that is when I became more anxious. This may sound strange but, it’s harder to make friends when people are already in a group because most of the time they don’t want to talk to anyone else. They rather stick with the friends they already have, rather than talking to a seventh grader who doesn’t know anyone in the class. To be honest I don’t blame them. I was also shocked to see that there will be eight graders in my class. I wasn’t expecting that. However, as time passed and I got to see how journalism really is, I didn’t feel the need to talk to them. Thankfully, I made a lot of new friends in this class. This class has not only helped me open up to new people, but it has also given me the opportunity to improve my writing skills.

I really like to write, and I’ve been trying to get better at it. English is my second language, and that has made it a bit difficult to write to my full potential. However, I am very proud to see how far I’ve gotten. I know that my writing skills are not the best, but in my opinion they could be way worse. Writing an article every week has made me realize things in my writing that I need to work on. Especially, since I can actually choose what I want to write about, I can get really into the topic. I can also write about things that I feel like are important, or things that I am really passionate about. Although, sometimes it is hard to decide and figure out what to write about. It is also very nice having an entire week to publish our articles. It’s enough time to take it slow, make corrections, and relax. I have a lot of classes that I get tired of and dread going to. Journalism is definitely a class I don’t mind going to everyday. It’s a very relaxing class that never stresses me out. I t has definitely changed my writing for the better.

When I tell people that I have journalism they feel sorry for me. They always think that journalism is boring and all you do is write. I strongly disagree with them. I feel like you can’t judge a class without actually being in it. Journalism brightens my day. So many weird things happen in this class, but that’s what makes it fun. For example, when there was a fake wedding in the class during Halloween. I am not going to name people, but I am pretty sure you know who I am talking about. This is a memory I will never forget. This class has made me cry of laughter! One of my favorite things about this class is that there is no judging. I feel like a belong in this class, and I am happy that I got placed into this wonderful class. Overall, my journalism experience has been magnificent.
