This is the continuation of Season 2 of the Serena Series.

I woke to a ray of bright, blinding sunlight streaming through the opening of the tent. I opened my eyes and looked around. Skyler was already up, sitting next to me.

“Skyler?” I said, sitting up. “Good morning.” He said to me. I don’t know about ‘good’. I thought to myself. “Morning.” I replied.

It was dead silent for the next fifteen minutes. I awkwardly played with a strand of my bright brunette hair. After what seemed like hours, I said, “Skyler, I-” at the same time he said, “Serena-” I chuckled. “You go first.” I said.

He took a shaky breath. “I’m not mad at you, Serena.” He said. “None of this is your fault. It was only a matter of time before they found out I was going to betray them. Now, I’m just meeting my fate sooner.”

“But this isn’t your fate! You don’t deserve any of this. I’m so, so-” Skyler help up a hand to stop me. “Stop.” He said. “This is only going to make it worse. I’ve never met anyone like you, Serena. You’re unique. And I’m glad we met.”

“I’m glad we met too.” I said. A minute later, the same two rebel warriors from last night entered the tent. “Hope you had a good night’s sleep.” One said. There was a smirk on his face. “Skyler? It’s time to go.” The other one stated.

Skyler looked at me. His eyes were red. It was obvious he had hardly gotten any sleep last night and had cried. He gave me a wobbly smile. “It was an honor meeting you, princess of Azura. I hope you will find your sister, and one day, someone will stop Magnar.”

I couldn’t speak. It was all happening way too fast. Skyler got up and let the rebels take a hold of him. “Good boy.” The rebel guard said. He had a smile on his face. It was obvious he was enjoying this. Every second of it. “NO! SKYLER-” I yelled.

“Sky.” Skyler interrupted. “You can call me Sky. Don’t ever give up, Serena.” “Time to go now.” A rebel said, exiting the tent. I stared at them, devastated. “Goodbye, Sky.” I said. They left the tent.

He was gone. Sky was dead. I was never going to see him again. I grieved for hours. Even though I just met him, I felt like I’ve known him for years.

My sobs finally came to an end. I had no more tears left inside of me. I thought about the last thing Sky had said to me. “Don’t ever give up, Serena.” Those were his last words. I won’t give up. I thought.

I had to be strong. Or Sky’s and Helena’s deaths won’t be the only deaths. Magnar is after my entire family. He is after me. And by every second that passes, he is brainwashing dozens.

With a newfound strength and vengeance in me, I firmly stood up, ready for action. No more grieving. I thought. No more crying. Magnar is going to pay for this. All of this. Suddenly, all my sadness and grief turned into anger; thirst for revenge.

Feeling unstoppable, I said aloud, “I’m busting out of this prison.”
