On May 16, 2017 the Hale Dance Team and the Drill Team performed for our school. The theme this semester was Throwback (even though only around four songs were actually from the 20th century.) The opening number started with about six people dancing to “ Take On Me” by the band A-Ha. The other songs that were used in the opening number were “Want” by the Spice Girls, and “ Single Ladies” by Beyonce. In some of the dances the girls ( and sometimes guys) were in sync with each other, but in others they were a little sloppy. During the dance performance there were four different types that were used; Hip-hop, Ballet, a little jazz, and a ton of lyrical. Most the dances of the same type would look relatively similar to each other. In one of the dances the dancers came through the aisles into the audience. What impressed me the most were the dances that were very lucid and showed great flexibility. One thing that had been noticed was the overuse of one of the songs that had been used now three times in the past two years. In between the dance performance the Drill Teams Sparkle group performed, and did an amazing job at wowing the audience. Unlike last year there were more solos and duets that performed. Due to the time crunch most dances were short yet sweet, but it was better than having dances that lagged for too long. On of my most loved performances was the “ Picture Frame Dance” where people dressed up as different famous pictures like the Mona Lisa, and The Dancers.

This year all of the dances were well rehearsed and you could tell that the dance team spent a lot of time working on each and everyone of the dances. Even though they had a few mistakes the show was really entertaining and fun to watch. Everyone in the audience seemed to really be enjoying the show. The dancers started the show with a laughs hen dancing to Take On Me and continued on with faster and more exciting music. Towards the end of the show the music being danced too started to get slower and way calmer than the songs they danced to in the beginning of the show. The costumes that the dancers wore went along really well to each of the songs being danced to. The dancers had matching outfits for each of the songs and they had to quickly change out of them as the next song was about to play. Every year new students join the dance team and bring along different talents which makes each dance performance so interesting and different than the last. This year they had a little more visuals than last performances. When the picture frame was brought out I was a little confused on how they would fit it into the dance but as the music started and the dance team started to dance everything started to fit together and make sense; the picture frame was one of my favorite parts of the show along with the beginning dance Take On Me. Overall I loved the show and I’m glad I got to see all of the dancers perform.

This was the last performance of this school semester. This is some of the dancers last show at hale because they are leaving to highschool the following school year. The girls who have a passion for dance and showed emotion in the choreography stood out fromt the rest of the dancers. The girls had very good technique and stayed on the counts of their routine. Hearing the songs and seeing the costumes from the 90s was very nastalgic and brought back many memories from that time period including crop tops and chokers. These ladies worked very hard and it payed off. Drill team did outsanding stunts and had proper and clean technique.
