ISIS has claimed that they were responsible for the Manila attack. The Resorts World Manila is a casino located in the capital of the Philippines. The attack left 37 dead, but police at first thought is was not an act of terrorism. One armed man entered the casino, and fired at occupied gambling tables with an assault rifle. The tables lit on fire, sadly most of the people died from suffocation from the smoke. The attackers name was Abou al-Kheir al-Arkhebieli, he boasted about all the  “Christians killed or wounded” before he “took his life.” ISIS claimed but police said it was not true. “They can always claim whatever they want to claim,” said Oscar Albayalde, police chief for the Manila area. They have this reputation of claiming all atrocities all over the world to perpetuate themselves to gain global notoriety. There is no truth that the incident is terror act.”

Philippine government forces have been battling ISIS associated militants on the southern island of Mindanao, to retake the city of Marawi. This attack would make sense that its an act of terrorism because ISIS is so close. The attack was unfolded at midnight the day before the real shooting the gunman entered and security guards but, they did not engage the gunman. Video showed guests frantically running for the exits, the sound of gunshots and smoke coming from the upper floors of buildings. Hundreds of guests and employees rushed out of the resort after the gunman began shooting on the second floor, hotel employees fleeing the scene. “The man ransacked a room and stole gaming chips,” Philippine National Police Chief Ronald Dela Rosa said. “He stuffed chips totaling 113 million pesos ($2.3 million) in a backpack, which police later recovered,” he said. The gunman was in a fire fight with casino security. The gunman got shot, and retreated into a hotel room, covered a bed with gasoline, and ended his own life.
The gunman was found dead in the hotel room later in the day when the casino was searched. His body was found burned, and next to him his automatic rifle using .380-caliber pistol. The attacker claimed 37 lives, and caused lots of damage to the casino.
