As Harry looked through a boring old magazine in the drafty waiting room of the hospital, he thought to himself, why would a horrific thing like this happen to someone he loves. On the other hand he was also thankful.

It started earlier that morning, which was the 28th of October, it was a blustery day and leaves were falling everywhere. Harry could see the neighbor sweeping them off his yard as he whistled a tune. Harry Davidson was a 14 year old boy, pretty short for his age, he had blond hair that was long and had big glasses that covered half of his face, it magnified his bright blue eyes. He always wore a sweater and shorts no matter what the occasion or weather was just because he liked it. Harry was an only child with just his mother looking after him. She was a kind, smart lady, a little shorter like her son, but with ginger hair and freckles that suited her fine. Although most of the time she had a stressed look like she had been through a lot. Harry didn’t mind that he never knew his father, his mother told him that it was a very good thing he didn’t anyways. After all, she was the one that left him for a reason. And now Harry and his mom live in Springfield, Illinois. Harry liked it because it’s where he grew up and mostly everyone was friendly.

As Harry walked out of his house to get on the rusty bucket of junk the school called a bus, he noticed a strange man standing by the road. He was in all black pants and a jacket that looked worn out. There were patches on his elbows and knees except for a grey scarf that covered his neck and mouth. He had one dirty blue eye and the other eye had no pupil and a scar going from his eyebrow across, even though he was short an eye that one eye was so attentive. It looked like he was waiting for something to happen, just standing there, still as the dead. This man that stood out so much in appearance, and yet was hardly noticeable by sight gave Harry a bad feeling in his stomach. He had to sit for a second and put himself together again. When he looked back, the man was gone. Like he wasn’t even there at all. Harry thought it best if he forgot about it and sat down to relax and look out the window of the bus. Shockingly he saw the man again and fainted on sight. The man was grinning with these black and yellow teeth, of which most were gone, as he got into the back seat of his mother’s car. The man was waiting for Harry to leave in the bus the whole time.

Meanwhile Harry’s mom was getting ready to go to work back at the house. Shortly she got in the car and drove off, after a while nothing happened until she got onto the freeway, she was unaware of what was crouched in the back seat. As she was driving she heard a voice that was so familiar to her she knew exactly who it was and the only reason she didn’t just jump out the car then and there was for the sake of her own life, to many cars speeding over 60 miles per hour around to do it. The voice said “hello honey , I’m back from the little “break” you sent me on so long ago, did ya miss me?” She could sense the aggravation and madness in his voice and this scared her even more. “ I forgive you for your little accident you gave me” and then he pointed to the eye. Obviously he could not live life alone and this drove him insane he explained. “But now we can be together forever” he said darkly. And then he laughed a laugh you could never get out of your mind , the kind of laugh that could have drove Harry’s mother insane too if it went on any longer, as he pulled a knife out of his pocket. He took a swing and missed luckily as his ex-wife managed to dodge it and keep driving, didn’t look so good this time though, just as Harry’s mom was about to meet her demise a drunk driver in a Porsche smashed into the side of her car and killed her ex-husband on impact. Harry’s mom was badly injured and taken to the hospital.

Back on the bus when Harry finally woke up he remembered what happened and called the police as soon as he could. The police found out what happened and notified the school to tell Harry. Then Harry got a ride to the hospital not knowing what to think . He almost broke out in tears when he saw his mom covered in casts, bandages, and tubes just lying still on the bed. The doctor quickly reassured him that his mother would be ok and would fully recover but she needed rest and alone time.

Why would a horrific thing like this even happen to someone he loves he thought, as he looked through a boring old magazine in the drafty waiting room of the hospital…
